Into The Light

Part one of my journey into recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.

It is hard to describe the darkness from within the midst of it.  While actively enjoying alcoholism it seems light, bright, an utter delight. People looking on, however, shake their heads, dismayed. They are confused by the lies, pissed off at the irresponsible behaviour, and horrified at the neglect and abuse of the children.

Into The Light

Forgiven Much

Why has it been so hard for me to let go and forgive? I was stuck in unforgiveness so long it was like a warm comfortable blanket. An old smelly blanket. A blanket that had become crusted into my skin over the years. I was determined not to give it up. I tried pretending it wasn’t there, but I wasn’t fooling anybody – especially not Jesus who sees EVERYTHING.

Forgiven Much

A Small Miracle

I was talking with my mother the other morning and we were sharing about how, as children, we knew that God was real, and how we had come to know Him. My mother is nearly 88 and has been writing about her Christian life – its wonderful to be able to share these things.  

She told me a story which I will share here.

Numbers

No not the Book of Numbers in the Bible - but a bit of a look into my oddball mind.

I wrote a poem the other day, and am writing another. I will include both. I have an oddity regarding numbers, I remember them more than I remember people's names or faces.

O Death Where Is Thy Sting?

My dad died last Monday and we had his funeral on Thursday. Here it is Saturday and I am writing this. I feel moved to write this piece as there were things that I felt I could not say at the funeral out of respect to his widow and several family members who for reasons of their atheism would find my comments offensive and dad’s funeral was not the platform to proclaim my Christian viewpoint.

Even though its taken him 92 years to get to this place, (I gesture towards his coffin) I am still unprepared for this. The close calls he’s had which would have started nearly 20 odd years ago with his heart failure and subsequent pacemaker has always had him bouncing back for another round. Up to this point. What a survivor. I’m sure everyone is going to cover so much of dad today...
